Churachandpur

Churachandpur is tribal towns known for its local handicrafts which are available in abundance and is the district headquarters. Best period to visit this place is September to February. Monsoon is heavy and leads to landslide. Landslides are a common phenomenon in the in rainy season and road blockades are also cleared quite fast.

Churachandpur in Manipur is truly an island of peace, tranquility, prosperity and progress due to its people. There are 20 to 30 tribes, each with their different dialects and languages living together in noticeable size following their own religion and custom. Thus it makes this place a colourful cosmopolitan town. Churachandpur is also known as Lamka, called by the locals is a place where one can find all the communities like Kuki, Mizo, Naga and Zomi ethnic groups. Dresses and handicrafts available here are all beautiful and is found in vibrant colors.

  • By Air – Churanchandpur is 59 kilometer to the south of Imphal. Nearest airport is Imphal Airport, lies 66 - 68 kilometers downtown. Imphal connects the place with Guwahati, Delhi, and Calcutta. Indian Airlines connects Imphal with Delhi via Guwahati on regular basis. Indian Airlines, Jet Airways connects Imphal to Delhi, 4 hours Journey.  Imphal to Kolkata is 1 hour, Guwahati is 50 minutes, Aizwal 30 minutes, Jorhat 35 minutes and Silchar is 30 minutes.
  • By Rail – Churanchandpur is 59 kilometer to the south of Imphal. Dimapur, 215 kilometers from Imphal, is the nearest railhead for Manipur. Or travelers can travel up to Guwahati, nearest major rail head from Imphal by bus or by air.
  • By Road – Churanchandpur is 59 kilometer to the south of Imphal. Imphal is connected by road with Dimapur by National Highway 39 and Silchar by National Highway 53. One can reach Dimapur from Imphal 215 kilometers on National Highway 39 or Guwahati from Imphal nearly 500 kilometers along National Highway 39. Silchar is also connected to Imphal by a 10 hours drive by bus.
