Situated at a distance of 55 kilometers from Siliguri and 58 kilometers from Darjeeling, Mirik the world’s highest lake resort is one of the relatively new hill stations in India. It is an attractive destination as a quiet resort. The 1.25 kilometer long Sumendu Lake against the backdrop of the majestic Himalaya provides opportunities for a variety of water sports. Boating under the gaze of Kanchendzonga makes for a most relaxing pastime. Rameetay Dara and Deosi Dara are two points near the lake from where the view is scenic. Apple orchards and tea gardens are other attractions.
Altitude is 1767 meters above sea level. Weather is very pleasant here. Another attraction of Mirik is Pashupatinagar in Nepal border for its foreign goods market.
By Air – The nearest airport is Bagdogra. It is 62 kilometers away. It takes about 2 ½ hours to reach Bagdogra from Mirik. Indian Airlines and Jet Airways operate services to and from Kolkata, Delhi and Guwahati.
By Rail – Two major railway stations nearer is Siliguri Junction (55 kilometers) and New Jalpaiguri (62 kilometers). These railway stations have direct connectivity to and from Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Guwahati etc.
By Road – The road is maintained throughout the year and is nice. Bus service between Mirik and Siliguri & Darjeeling is frequent. Private taxi and share taxis are also available.
