Sandakphu

Sandakphu is the place from where one can view the four of the five highest peaks of this world, namely Everest, Kanchenjunga, Mokama, Lhotse. It is a paradise for adventure lovers. Every year a good number of trekker come here to enjoy the hilly trail.

Phalut is 23 kilometers from Sandakphu. And it is the highest point in West Bengal (3600 meters). It is another vantage point to see the beauty of Himalaya.

To reach Sandakphu or Phalut you have to start your trek from Maneybhanjan (a small place, 34 kilometers from Darjeeling). Accommodation for trekkers are available at Tonglu, Tumling (Nepal), Joubari (Nepal), Gairibas, Kalpokhri, Sandakphu, Phalut, Molley, Gorkhey, Sri Khola, Rammam and Rimbick.

To Reach

By Air – Sandakphu is 3 hours drive from Darjeeling or two days trek from Darjeeling. The nearest airport is in Bagdogra Airport which is 94 kilometers away from Darjeeling. It takes about 3 hours to reach Darjeeling from Bagdogra.

By Rail – Sandakphu is 3 hours drive from Darjeeling or two days trek from Darjeeling. Two closest major railway stations are Siliguri Junction (92 kilometers) and New Jalpaiguri (96 kilometers). These railway stations have direct connectivity to and from Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Guwahati etc. Darjeeling also has a railway station which serves as the ending station of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) or toy train, which is one of the major tourist attraction of this region.

By Road – Sandakphu is 3 hours drive from Darjeeling or two days trek from Darjeeling. Darjeeling is well connected with Siliguri with national Highway number 55 and has one more route via Panighata. It is also well linked up with National Highway number 31 – A i.e. Siliguri Gangtok Highway. Gangtok, Pelling, Kalimpong are well connected with Road from Darjeeling
