Champhai

It is located in the eastern part of Mizoram and is the district headquarters of Champhai. It is 194 kilometers from Aizawl, the capital. The climate is cool and healthy and the emerald town of Champhai offers a clean view of the hills of Myanmar. The town is a developing venue for Indo - Myanmar border trade. It is an ideal place for shopping of all kinds of imported goods. The legendary placid lake ‘Rih Dil’ is located 22 kilometers inside Myanmar from Champhai town. Champhai has charming patches of lush green paddy fields usually set in the valley between two hills and Champhai is popularly known as rice bowl of Mizoram but fast turning into a fruit bowl. Beautiful vineyards, passion fruit orchards and ‘Kiwi’ fruit plantations in the surrounding hill slopes provide a kaleidoscope of colors is worth.

The area is 3185.83 square kilometers and the elevation is 1678 meters. It has a background of rich heritage, scattered in small hamlets, villages dotted with monuments and monoliths that depict success in war, valorous hunting, personal distinctions and achievements.

  • By Air - Nearest major airport is Shillong. Aizawl, the capital town of Mizoram is linked by Alliance Air Service everyday to Kolkata nearly 1 hour 45 minutes, Guwahati is 40 minutes and Imphal is 30 minutes. Lengpui airport at Aizawl is connected with Guwahati, Silchar & Kolkata. It is well connected to all the capital cities of the north eastern states of India. Aizawl is also connected to Kolkata, 1547 kilometers by air, through which it is connected to the rest of the India.
  • By Rail - The nearest rail station is in Silchar, which is 385 kilometers away from Champhai. One can travel from Guwahati to Silchar by Barak Valley Express, Cachar Express or the Tripura Passenger.
  • By Road – Champhai is 194 kilometers from Aizawl, the capital. National Highway number 54 connects Aizwal with the rest of the country through Silchar. Buses and taxis are available from Champhai to Aizwal. Government and private buses, sumo services which ply day and night on all days except Sundays. Taxis can be hired on all days from any part of Mizoram.
