Dimapur

The city is situated at an altitude of 145 meters above sea level. Best time to Travel is through out the year. The weather conditions are hot and humid in the plains during summer with maximum temperature rising up to 39 C, while the winters are cool and pleasant. The average annual rainfall is 150 centimeters. It is the gateway of Nagaland. This fast developing town is also the commercial centre of the state, which is connected with the main broad gauge railhead. The Ruins of Medieval Kachari Kingdom - Ruins of Medieval Kachari Kingdom, established before the 13th century AD is one of the important sites of the megalithic culture. The monoliths represent the elaborate rituals of the cult of fertility. A touch of Hindu influence on most of them can be seen, though this civilization is a pre dominantly No - Aryan. Besides, this ancient Kachari capital contains other ruins of temples, and tanks. There still exist scattered ruins with various designs made up of stone and bricks. Intangki Wildlife Sanctuary is about 37 Kilometers from Dimapur. It is home to various animals including some rare species of birds.

  • By Air – Dimapur is the only place in the State from where air services are available. There is a tri - weekly Indian Airlines service connecting Dimapur with Kolkata. There are over 9 domestic flights per week from Dimapur and connects with 2 cities nonstop. Dimapur has the only airport in Nagaland. Indian Airlines plies four flights a week to Dimapur from Kolkata & Delhi. The airport is 70 kilometers from Dimapur
  • By Rail – Dimapur is the only place in the State from where train services are available. Dimapur is an important railhead of North East Frontier Railway (Indian Railway).
  • By Road – The national highway 39 passes through the heart of this commercial centre of the state. Kohima the state capital is only at a distance of 74 kilometers from Dimapur, which one can cover in just two hours. State Transport services, private buses can be availed at any time. Many private night super tourist buses are also plying from Dimapur to various important cities and towns in North East India.

Guwahati is about 292 kilometers from Dimapur. Imphal, the capital of Manipur is around 216 kilometers from Dimapur.
