This 120 odd square kilometers of protected and mature rainforest is nestled in the valley of the river Ngengpui is South Mizoram. The wildlife sanctuary is close to Lawngtlai town, which is the headquarters of the Lai Autonomous District Council and is also the district headquarters. Located at 296 kilometers away from Aizawl in the southern part of Mizoram, the wildlife sanctuary is also close to Indo – Myanmar and Indo – Bangladesh borders, having rich biodiversity. It is situated at an elevation ranging from 200 meters to about 1200 meters above sea level with virgin sub - tropical evergreen vegetation.
The sanctuary is the ideal habitat for precious faunal species like Elephant, Tiger, Clouded Leopard, Gaur (India Bison), Barking Deer, Wild Leaf Monkey and varieties of birds and a host of wild plants. The wildlife sanctuary is a unique habitat for a wide range (70 species) of Herpeto Fauna.
