Phek is the district headquarter and the home of the Chakhesang (a combination of three tribals; ‘Cha’ of Chekru, ‘Khe’ of Khezhe and ‘Sang’ of Sangtam). The ulture and customs of the Chakesang is very different from other Nagas. Phek is famous for its colourful Tsukhenyie festival which takes place in March – April. Here the Tragopan pheasant are found in abundance and colourful orchids grow wildly here. A hotspot name Pfutsero It is situated at an altitude of 2,133.60 meters above sea-level. This hill station is a beautiful township and the coldest town in Nagaland. Apples orchard have enhance the beauty of the place. It is connected with Kohima by a distance of 70 km border road.
Chakesangs are known for their wrestling and robust health. A popular tourist spot is the Shilloi Lake believed to be abode of spirits by the local people and they have many eerie tales about it and locals do not drink water from this lake.
