Lava is a rustic hamlet on the ancient trade route to Tibet earlier known as the Silk Route and is one of the few places in West Bengal to receive snow in winter. Lava is scenic with forest of alpine trees of fir, pine and birch.
It is in the vicinity of Jelep La Pass and Neora Valley National Park and it commands panoramic views of Jelep La and Rechi La passes. The region is still virgin and wild animals such as the Himalayan Black Bear, barking deer along with lots of birds can be spotted. Lolaygaon and Rishyap are two more tourist spot near Lava

Lava has five distinct seasons spring, summer, autumn, winter, and the monsoons. With mild summers, heavy monsoon and chilling winter and last from December to February. Maximum Temperature ranges from 24 in summer to 15 in winter
By Air – The nearest airport is in Bagdogra which is 100 kilometers away from Lava. Regular flight for Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, are available from this airport.
By Rail – Two closest major railway stations are Siliguri Junction 103kilometers and New Jalpaiguri 107 kilometers. Bagrakote also has a railway station which serves as the station for Siliguri Junction, Malbazar, Chalsa and Alipurduar
By Road – Lava is 54 kilometers from National Highway 31-A, which links Siliguri to Gangtok. National Highway 31 connects Lava to with other parts of the country. Frequent bus and taxi service is available to and from Siliguri, Darjeeling, Gangtok, etc.
